Climate Justice & Democracy
We’re funding people power all over the world to pave the way to a livable future for everyone.

Around the world, fossil fuel interests drown out the will of the people. They especially thrive in the Global South where they shore up autocracies to their financial benefit. Once strong democracies are being pushed toward authoritarianism so corporate profits can be protected at all costs. Diverse climate movement leaders have begun piloting visionary new strategies—from debt cancelation to re-centering the interests of everyday people, paving the way to secure a livable future for everyone.
Example past program beneficiaries:
Assemble
Assemble is pioneering a cutting-edge fusion of direct democracy and direct action in the UK. Led by a cohort of seasoned organizers from a range of climate movements, this UK-based movement organizes local people’s assemblies to generate popular demands, and then organizes escalation campaigns to give teeth to those demands. Since these two strategies have complementary strengths and weaknesses, when deployed in concert, they can open up new pathways to victory.
Debt for Climate
Debt for Climate is an international collective of climate activists demanding that Global North countries cancel debt for countries in the Global South, allowing those countries to devote more resources toward climate crisis mitigation and adaptation. The group's powerful, internationally coordinated protests have fundamentally changed the narrative around debt cancellation, playing a role in the creation of the Loss and Damage Fund at COP28.
