Seed Funding for New Movements
When a grassroots climate campaign is coming together, it has passionate volunteers, tremendous energy, and a vision— but no money. Climate Emergency Fund works as a venture philanthropy, providing funds when the groups need it most.
We Were the First Funders of:
Climate Defiance
Since its launch in early 2023, Climate Defiance’s bold confrontations have caught the attention of millions. During the Biden Administration, Climate Defiance was uniquely successful at turning climate movement pressure into concrete victories, keeping the spotlight on the climate crisis while much of the rest of the US climate movement had gone dormant.
Climate Emergency Fund supported more than 90% of Climate Defiance’s budget in their first year, and 50% in their second year.
Just Stop Oil & A22 Network
In early 2022, Climate Emergency Fund provided seed funding for the development and launch of Just Stop Oil and the broader A22 Network, a global network of groups utilizing a shared methodology of recruitment and action. The groups in the A22 Network have been featured in the press tens of thousands of times, responsible for many of the most notorious climate protests of all time. And several of them, including Just Stop Oil and Restore Wetlands, have won their demands!
Climate Emergency Fund provided more than 90% of the A22 Network’s budget in its first year, and more than 50% in its second year.
Scientist Rebellion
Since its founding in 2021, members of Scientist Rebellion have been a ubiquitous presence at climate protests around the globe. When scientists attend disruptive protests, they provide a significant boost in legitimacy, making it more difficult for the media to write off the protesters as “alarmists” or a “radical fringe”.
Climate Emergency Fund provided more than 90% of the budget for Scientist Rebellion in its first and second year.
And More!
