After five years as Executive Director, Margaret Klein Salamon will be stepping into a new role as Chair of the Board, and Philip W. Eubanks, our current Deputy Director, will become Executive Director. I will become the Board Treasurer. This transition is designed to strengthen Climate Emergency Fund as we scale the disruptive, nonviolent climate movement at a moment when it is urgently needed.
Under Margaret’s leadership, Climate Emergency Fund grew from a small startup fund into an internationally recognized hub for high-impact climate activism. Over the past five years, the organization has raised and granted more than $18 million to over 150 organizations worldwide. Margaret’s move to the Board Chair role allows her to focus on strategy and thought leadership, while continuing close collaboration with Philip and with the Board.
Philip brings more than a decade of experience in justice-centered philanthropy, having raised more than $28 million for journalists at risk and refugee support prior to joining Climate Emergency Fund. During his two years with Climate Emergency Fund, Philip’s leadership and thoughtfulness has earned him deep trust across staff, grantees, and funders. He will lead Climate Emergency Fund with a focus on scaling our impact, strengthening infrastructure, and ensuring activists have the resources they need to succeed.
In these turbulent political times, as science and progress on climate is under threat, we at Climate Emergency Fund believe that our mission is more important than ever. Climate Emergency Fund remains the only nonprofit globally dedicated to funding disruptive, nonviolent climate activism at scale. Through supporting activists, we provide our funders with a way to create the momentum for real climate action.
We’re grateful to have you with us, and we hope you’ll continue partnering with us to build the movement needed to secure a livable future.
With appreciation and resolve,
Rose Abramoff, PhD
