Schiphol Airport Bans Private Jets

For the last year, numerous Climate Emergency Fund grantees have been protesting against the outsized climate impact of private jet travel by the rich. New York Communities for Change blockaded a private airport in the Hamptons in May 2022. In Fall 2022, Scientist Rebellion helped coordinate a global wave of action against private jets, with actions taking place at 13 airports. And Extinction Rebellion Netherlands has repeatedly targeted Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport with major blockades.

In April 2023, the movement against private air travel achieved its first major win when Schiphol Airport announced that it would ban private jets as soon as 2025! This once again demonstrates the power of disruptive climate protest. Hopefully, the example set by Schiphol Airport will be followed by airports across the globe, and soon private air travel will become a thing of the past.
